Jenna Ortega, the star of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” made a grand entrance at the 2023 Met Gala, sporting a dress that can best be described as “goth-glam opulence.” The look, designed by Thom Browne, featured a black corset top paired with an enormous ruffled skirt with distressed edges that extended into a long train. Ortega expertly blended Karl Lagerfeld’s design signatures at Chanel with Thom Browne’s whimsical approach to proportions and texture.
The dress was layered with a sheer, bow-tied blouse underneath the corset and a tweed bolero jacket on top. Punk accessories, including sheer knee-high socks and platform brogues, completed the look. Delicate diamond drop earrings and a diamond ring by Marli New York added a touch of glam.
Ortega’s hair and makeup were on point as well. She rocked thick eyeliner and a half-up, half-down hairstyle that evoked a ’90s Chanel runway model. This look is quite a departure from her previous fashion choices, which included a hot pink confection by Valentino for the 2022 Met Gala. Lately, Ortega has been sporting all-black outfits, a nod to her character Wednesday Addams. “I’ve always respected goth culture,” Ortega said in a previous interview. “I’ve always had a darker sense of humor, but I never felt like I was able to express that. Now I feel like I can embrace those qualities in myself.”
Overall, Ortega nailed the Met Gala theme this year and channeled her most recognizable role with her “goth-glam opulence” look.
