In case you missed it, Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang turned heads at the 2023 Met Gala when they showed up wearing the same style of dress.

However, they didn’t seem to mind and actually had fun with it. Olivia even posted a side-by-side photo of herself, Margaret, and the original 1983 design by Karl Lagerfeld that inspired both looks on her Instagram story, with the caption “Great minds.” Margaret responded, “CUE THE STRINGS.”
The dress was designed by Chloé’s current designer, Gabriela Hearst, who was inspired by the original design’s musical and surrealistic touches. Gabriela made some alterations to turn it into a gala dress instead of a cocktail dress, and the result was stunning.
Despite both actresses wearing the same dress, they each made it their own. Olivia chose a white-and-gold version with coordinated cuffs and a simple blowout, while Margaret went for a black dress with gold embroidery, a longer skirt, and a cool cape. She even added cobalt blue hair and black sunglasses for a bolder look.
Interestingly, this is the first time that multiple people have worn the same dress to the Met Gala. It’s unclear whether Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor-in-chief and the final arbiter of guests’ outfits, was aware of the duplicate dresses. In any case, Olivia and Margaret proved that a little fashion mishap can be turned into a fun moment.
